Tall
in the Saddle: (1990) This was a CBC television special, and it
was Kurt's first. This special introduces Kurt's parents as they
talk about Kurt growing up. It's filmed in Caroline, Alberta (Kurt's hometown).
Kurt narrates this documentary. The scenery is just breathtaking. Kurt
skates outdoors on a frozen lake, he skates pairs with Kristi Yamaguchi,
and he clowns around with his friends, Gary Beacom, Michael Slipchuck,
and Norm Proft. It also features the skaters from the Royal Glenora Club.
My favorite part is Kurt as the rodeo clown! |
Life
on the Edge: (1992) "Life on the Edge" is a documentary that covers
Kurt's career from the Calgary Winter Olympics to the Albertville Olympics.
This special contains scenes from practice sessions, excerpts from competitive
performances, and discussions with his coach about changing his style. It
also has interviews with Kurt, his parents, and his coach. Heavy emphasis
on his rivalry with Viktor Petrenko, his back injury, and the creation
of "Firebird Suite". My favorite parts were the practice sessions. I love
"behind the scenes" stuff. ;)
This video was also available commercially, but I believe it is now
out of print. |
You
Must Remember This: (1994) Another television special produced
by CBC.This special opened with an AMAZING program...Singing in the Rain.
It was done just like the movie, and Kurt was unbelievable as Gene Kelly.
He really got to show off his versatility in this special, skating to everything
from rock 'n roll to classical music. Kurt got to portray a Bogie-type
character again in a sketch called "The Big Melt". It was filmed in black
and white. Along with seeing our favorite skaters try their hand at acting,
there was some beautiful skating in this sketch.(including Kurt skating
pairs with Tuffy!) Another first: Kurt actually sings in this special!
He sings a song called "Make 'em Laugh" and entertains a group of children.
(I think he should stick to skating...lol)This special includes other skaters
such as Kristi Yamaguchi, Josee Chouinard, and Hough & Ladret. This
special won 5 Gemini Awards!! I could watch Singing in the
Rain over and over! Maybe that's why they have it at the beginning and
at the end! |
Snowden
on Ice-(1997) Although Kurt was not the "star" of this special,
he really made it much more fun! This heartwarming holiday musical featured
Katia Gordeeva and her daughter Daria as the main characters. Kurt plays
two characters in this show. What I loved about Kurt's roles was that
they were suited perfectly for him. He plays Brett, the local hockey coach
and HUGE flirt...and he also plays Katia's grandfather. Also starring
in this special were Josee Chouinard and Scott Hamilton..(oh yeah, and
Snowden, too!) This special is also sold commercially and is only
available at Target. |
Snowden,
Raggedy Ann and Andy Holiday Show-(1998) Not really a sequel
to the first, this special focuses more on Kurt and Josee. They portray
brother and sister. Scott Hamilton and Katia Gordeeva are also in this
one. Scott runs a traveling show that helps children's wishes come
true. Ann and Andy (Josee and Kurt) find him and help him make it
happen. Kurt has a great program in this special, and a cute one with Josee
at the end. This special is also available commercially...only at Target. |
Aladdin
on Ice--(1995) Kurt was adorable as he played Disney's Aladdin
opposite Kristi Yamaguchi (as Jasmine). He was perfect for the part! This
was a one hour special that aired on CBS in the US and on CBC in Canada.
Loved his costume! :oÞ |
Scott
Hamilton: Upside Down--(1996)This telelvision special featured
Scott Hamilton, Kristi Yamaguchi, Katia Gordeeva, and Kurt Browning.
It also contained footage from SOI rehearsals and interviews with the skaters.
My favorite part of this special was the "hockey fun" segment that Kurt
and Scott did. They actually played music with their hockey sticks and
skates, if you can imagine that. :) |
Scott Hamilton: Back
on the Ice--COMING SOON!! |
Celebration of
a Life: Tribute to Sergei Grinkov--COMING SOON!! |

Other Television Appearances |
Ready
or Not-- (1994) This was Kurt's acting debut! He played himself
in this Canadian (geared for the young teenage crowd) sitcom. He was making
a commercial and they held auditions for who was going to be in the commercial
with him. (That's all I'll say...I don't want to ruin it for you..
;) ) What cracked me up about this, was that one of the girls popped
in a video of Kurt, and I actually recognized what it was! (Scary, huh?) |
Sesame
Park--(1997) Sesame Park is Canada's version of Sesame Street...and
Kurt fit right in with those "Muppets"!!! There was a cute sketch were
Kurt was trying to teach a couple of them to skate. |
Muscular
Dystrophy Telethon-- Kurt was the Honorary Chairman and host of
the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Telethon in Canada. |
Canada
Day--(7/1/95) Kurt and Josee hosted this beautiful celebration!
Kurt and Josee were adorable as they danced on stage in the opening number.
They hosted the whole show and they were really pretty good at it! Kurt
would speak english and then Josee would repeat it in french. What really
comes through is how proud they are of their country! Almost makes
me wish I was Canadian. ;) |
Tara
Lipinski--From this Moment--(2/17/99) Kurt was a wonderful
addition to Tara's first television
special (CBS). He appeared in the opening number dribbling a
basketball on the ice, he skated to Hey! Pachuco in all black with a black
hat, skated a swing number with Tara, and he also skated with Tara to a
spanish instrumental piece. It was a great number.
This special was geared more towards the teenage crowds, IMO...especially
the Spice Girls number Tara did.
But, as always, Kurt was great....for any age crowd! |

Television Commercials |
Diet
Coke-- (1991) This commercial featured Kurt skating and then drinking
a Diet Coke at the end. LOL It was a really short commercial, he didn't
even have to learn any lines. ;) |
Target--
(1998) These commercials were great! Kurt got to speak in these, as did
Katia and Scott. There were four different ones with the three of them,
and I believe there was one more with just Scott and Katia. Aren't Kurt's
facial expressions priceless? |
Videos |
JUMP!-(1990)
This documentary features complete performances of Kurt's 1989 and 1990
competitive programs. It also contains interviews with Michael Jiranek
(Kurt's coach at that time), Kurt's parents, other members of the Royal
Glenora Skating Club, and Kurt himself. I love the beginning when
they play "Jump" by the Pointer Sisters and edit all of Kurt's jumps from
various performances to fit the music. This video was commercially available,
but I believe it's out of print now. |
Inside
Edge- (1994) This is a behind the scenes look at the 1994 Eaton's
Skate the Nation Tour. Skate the Nation is a tour with only Canadian
skaters that tours Canada only. :( This video is great if you love
all that "behind the scenes" stuff. They show rehearsals, shows,
and interviews with the skaters. Other skaters include Toller Cranston,
Brian O., Josee, Michael Slipchuck, and Hough & Ladret. This
is also a commercially sold video. |
Get
What You Need--(1995) Similar to the "Inside Edge" video, but this
time, Kurt narrates. This is the 1995 Skate the Nation Tour. Inerviews
with Kurt, Josee, Brian Orser, Sebastien Britten, and many more....
This video was sold commercially. |
